I've been watching the World's and American Ice Skating championships. Does anyone know the exact difference between partner skating vs. dance skating?

  1. Ice dance is supposed to be like ballroom dancing on ice.  Partners are supposed to be touching for the majority of the program.  Jumps are minimal.  In partner's skating, they don't need to be touching, and it's more of a skill based competition, with difficult jumps and lifts, and more physicality.  Partners don't need to be doing the exact same thing at the exact same time.

  2. In pairs figure skating they do jumps/throws and lifts.  but in ice dancing its pretty much dancing on ice, i mean they do spins but no jumps/throws or lifts or anything like that.

  3. In pair's skating they do jumps, but in ice dancing they do not.

  4. Partner's Ice Skating is the female would be thrown in the air and slipped, while Dance Ice Skating is the female would be slipped on the ice alone.(joking...) I watched this discipline every winter on tv.I love this art.

  5. In pairs, skaters perform jumps, spins and lifts, similar to singles skaters.  In dance, skaters perform patterns which resemble ballroom dance, but there really is no jumping, spinning and lifts cannot be higher than the male's shoulders.
