  1. Targa simply means u have the *take off top* and carrera is the low model 911 series thats all...LOONNGG time porche and other exotic cars studiest :)

  2. I believe you are asking what is the difference between a Targa and a Coupe. A Targa can be a Carrera. Carrera was another name for a 911. The Carrera came/comes in three different styles, Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet.

Targa's have a removable roof panel have a different roof line when you look at it from the side or from the front/back. The Targa has a wide roll-bar or band that starts behind the door and loops over the top where it is flatter than the Coupe. The rear window wraps around to shape the body unlike the Coupe which has "C" pillars. Later (996) Targa's changed to a sliding glass roof panel and the shape was not much different than the Coupe. The roof panel was made from Folding Magnesium members with several layers of fabric, aluminum inserts and a vinyl upholstery on the outer layer.

  3. The Targa is basically a Carrera with a glass roof.

    Targa mean glass roof.

Cabriolet means convertible. It is the German word for Convertible.

There is a Carrera Targa and a Carrera Cariolet and a Carrera Coupe.

  4. A quick , to the point answer is the Targa has a glass roof compared to the Carrera coupe, which has a normal roof or the Carrera cabriolet.

Otherwise they are the same, dependant on which Carrera you get, but the prices are similar with the 0-60 being in the 4 second range and other technical specs such as 0-100 or quarter mile being very close as they use the same engines.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Both names come from races where Porsche had success (The Carrera Panamericana and the Targa Florio).  The Carrera moniker was originally attached to the top performance model of various Porsche lines:  the 4 cam 356 Carrera, the Carrera 6, etc... most famously it appeared in the 911 model line with the introduction of the 1973 911 Carrera RS.

Moving into the 1980s, the Carrera name was adapted for all 911 models, upto the recent models where the 911 name has all but disappeared and been replaced by Carrera.

The Targa model was introduced as a variation of the 911.  While the 356 had been made as both a coupe and a cabriolet, testing with the more powerful 911 had not left Porsche's engineers with confience that the 911 chasis would work as a cabriolet (though nearly 20 years later, such a version would finally be introduced).  The Targa was introduced, being a cabriolet with a roll bar running between the B-pillars and allowing for a removable top and a drop soft window in back.  A few years later the soft window would be replaced by a non-removable glass rear window, creating the Targa that most people are familar with.

The Targa would continue in this form until the 993 Carrera was introduced and the Targa was redesigned to be a retractable top where the sides remain fixed... it has continued in this form through the 996 and through the current 997 model.

As it currently stands, the Carrera is a car produced by Porsche, that is available in three body types:  Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa.  The Targa has never been available as any model other than 911/Carrera, although some other Porsches have had Targa tops (914, 914-6).

  6. The carrera is more like a special edition or type. The targa's are equipped with a glass roof and hatch

  7. The other answers hit around the truth, but miss.

A targa is not a model, it is a body style.  911s (whether Carreras, SCs, 993s etc.) have been offered in 3 body styles over the years: coupe, targa, and cabriolet.

Repeat: It's a body style, not a model!  I don't know why people find this so hard to get.

  8. i had a 911 SC Targa...it is basically a Carrera 3 with a removable section of the roof in the middle of the car....it is sure a pain to stow in in the front of the car when you remove it though..:(
