  1. Rugby caters for all, whether you be tall short skinny fat white black brown or yellow all sorts can play the game.

With American football it only caters for the ***** population.

  2. try watching or even playing the games, the differences are quite obvious to anyone conscious and breathing

  3. Courage and speed.

  4. There are too many differences between the two, I'm not gunna start getting into the age old argument of who's the hardest or which one is better, it all goes down too personal opinion at the end off the day. in fact there is nothing you can compare the two on they are so different so I don't see the point of this argument! if you want to compare two sports maybe you could try rugby league Vs Union or American football Vs Canadian rules football, at least they are nearly the same!

Now, I'm English and live in London but I play rugby during the winter and American football during the summer so when I say that the two sports are completely different, I really do know that for sure! ok rugby is a fast paced game without many breaks and the players my need to be "fitter" but American football is A LOT tougher, harder hitting and technical, American football players need to be much stronger then rugby players believe me.

I'm not saying I prefer football or rugby at all I'm just trying to clear up a few misconceptions about the sport, the only way anyone will ever understand the difference is by playing both, there are plenty of football teams in the uk now and I'm sure they'd gladly let you take part in a training session so you get an idea of how tough it is and if you think the pads are a bit "g*y" then you can also try and play without them and see how long you stay in one piece!

like I said there are too many differences between the two to compare them and if anyone is too stubborn and stupid to see that and respect another nations sport then they're too stupid to understand the sport at all

  5. Gee, You have answered your own question

  6. Rugby is a real game where blood is spilled and players merely go off for 10 minutes to get stitched up, bones broken, (Jonny Wilkinson played the 2003 world cup final with a broken shoulder it turned out) arms dislocated and players still walk off the field. All with little more than a pair of shin pads and a gum shield, shoulder pads are being worn now but nothing like the ludicrus 'Mad Max' type worn by American football players.

American football players take about 3 years to put all their armour on (pretty much top to toe) and do their make up. What is the deal with that stuff they put on their faces. It looks ridiculous! They have 3 different teams for the game. One to attack, one to defend and another just for kicking duties. How lame is that? They can call a time out if they get tired.

All-in -all its a bit of a rubbish game by comparison. I doubt an NFL player could hack it in the Guiness premiership, and none have been asked but some NFL teams were actually chasing Ben Cohen to go and play over there after the 2003 win. But, as he is a man he stayed to play a mans game.

  7. Is there another difference?

  8. Rugby is played by MEN and american football by a bunch of *******

  9. rugbys for whimps and american football is for a real man.

  10. spot on buggar just wanted to add that soccer came from Association Football, werever you can c it in that?

  11. the one main difference is in american football  is you can do the newly named french pass otherwise not a lot difference.

  12. The main difference (apart from pads !) is that in American Football you can throw the ball forwards.

I wasn't aware, until recently, that American Football actually evolved from Rugby sometime in the mid 19th Century.

  13. There are two codes of rugnby, Union and league.

There is only one game called "football" in America.  It is predominantly played with the hands.  The game played with the feet is called "soccer".  They don't know why.

In Rugby, the game is continuous apart from half time.

In American football, the game stops every ten seconds whilst the one with the braincell tells everyone else what to do next and some girlies dance around.

In rugby the ball must be passed backwards only with the hands, runs are made diagnolly, sideways and forwards and the ball may be kicked in any direction.  This means players have to think quickly and be able to change tactics collectively in split seconds.

In American football, the ball is thrown forward and only one person catches it.  Everyone else just runs into eachother for no apparent reason.

In rugby, the players are expected to look after their own and eachothers' safety through correct conduct and being hard.

In American football, they look after themselves by wearing half a ton of padding and a crash helmet and spending large portions of the game not really doing anything.

In rugby, there are a handful of substitutions made over the 80minute game for bad injuries, or tactical reasons.

In American football, they change the entire team for different parts of the game because they can't learn more than one skill each and the fat ones can only cover a few yards before they need a burger break.

In rugby, the referee occasionally needs to get a judgement from the video ref. on a major decision.

In American football, everything is shown on a big screen in the ground as Americans prefer watching TV to sports.

  14. the diffrence is this rugby is played at a fast pace with just one set team and not an offensive team and a defencive team and  in rugby your constantly moving  unlike in nfl where the players wait around until theyve all counted to ten wich seems to take forever lol

  15. One is played by real men who dont need pads and helmets. The other is gridiron.

  16. Rugby is played by men, the other is not!

  17. Football is g*y. Fat hairy men in tight pants, grabbing each other. The Quarterback likes to bend over the Center and reach between his legs and wait for the ball to be handed to him. Real boring to watch, mostly waiting for something else to happen. A cure for insomnia.

  18. With american football you wear wimpy protective clothing. With Rugby, you play on with broken limbs....AND WIN.

  19. american football is for puffs, rugby is for real men, howeever dont tell em i said that will you

  20. American football is played by overweight drug addicts who need padding to stop them hurting themselves when they fall over, I have never seen such a pointless and pathetic game in my life.

  21. Agree 100% with the answer above. Football sucks, almost as much as soccer.
