What is the difference between STAMPED and METER at the post office?

At the USPS post office there are two kinds of mailing categories, stamped or meter. What is the difference between them?

  1. Stamped means you are using a "live"stamp.

    Metered mail has the postage printed on the envelope by machine.


  2. the stamped uses a stamp and metered has a pint print of the ammount of postage. They separate them so the metered mail doen't have to go throught the cancelation prosess. That's where they mark the date on the stamp. The metered letters go straignt to sorting..

    It's better to us metering, 'cause most damage happens in the cancelation process.
