  1. *A shielded cable is an electrical cable of one or more insulated conductors enclosed by a common conductive layer. The shield may be composed of braided strands of copper (or other metal), a non-braided spiral winding of copper tape, or a layer of conducting polymer. Usually, this shield is covered with a jacket. The shield acts as a Faraday cage to reduce electrical noise from affecting the signals, and to reduce electromagnetic radiation that may interfere with other devices. The shield minimizes capacitively coupled noise from other electrical sources.

In single conductor signal cables the shield may act as the return path for the signal and is usually connected only at the signal source. In multiconductor cables the shield should be grounded only at the source end, and will not carry circuit current.

High voltage power cables with solid insulation are shielded to protect the cable insulation and also people and equipment.

*A power cable is a long, cylindrically symmetric structure with a dielectric which operates at relatively high electrical stress. This solid dielectric is covered with a semi-conductive shield, thus forming a cable core on which a metallic ground shield is applied.

*Power cables typically include one or more electrical conductors, several layers of polymeric materials including a first or inner semi conducting shield layer (conductor or strand shield), an insulation layer, a second or outer semi conducting shield layer (insulation shield), a metallic tape or wire shield, and a protective jacket. Polyethylene and cross-linked polyethylene have been extensively used as an insulation for a DC power cable since they are superior in dielectric strength and other dielectric characteristics. Cross-linked polyethylene insulated electric power cables have various advantages of not only excellent electrical property, mechanical property, and heat-resistance property, but also easy maintenance. Because of these advantages, the cross-linked polyethylene insulated electric power cable is the mainstream type of power-transmission cable.

    * Internal electrical wiring in residential homes for 15 ampere AC power supply has been standardized as 14-2G type NM-B sheathed cable.

-This sheathed cable consists of three 14 gage solid conductors, with the line and neutral conductors individually insulated and disposed in a parallel flat lay on opposite sides of an insulated ground conductor.

*Romex is a brand name for a type of plastic insulated wire.

Sometimes called non-metallic sheath.  The formal name is NM.

This is suitable for use in dry, protected areas (ie: inside

stud walls, on the sides of joists etc.), that are not subject

to mechanical damage or excessive heat.  Most newer homes are wired almost exclusively with NM wire.  There are several different categories of NM cable.

*BX cable -- technically known as armored cable or "AC" has a flexible aluminum or steel sheath over the conductors and is fairly resistant to damage.

The sheath is the insulation & mechanical protection for the copper core

Armoured cable is the one in which, between inner sheath and outer sheath there are steel wires/steel mesh which will be used for glanding the cable and it will give the mechanical support.you can earth those armours in side the panel.

there are many type of cables like

    AYFY-Aluminium tripoid flat armoured

    YWY-Copper wound armoured

    XLPE-Cross linked polyethelyne

    etc.
