  1. Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art--it literally means "a way of kicking and punching."  It is 70% kicking and 30% punching and striking.  TKD is an Olympic sport.

    Karate is a martial art that originated on Okinawa (sp?).  It is my understanding that it is about 50/50 when it comes to feet/hands, and it seems that Karate uses more open-hand techniques than TKD.

  2. can't really go wrong if you choose to do any of those 3 i think

  3. By an far the greatest difference in those three is the countries of origin:

    Kung Fu = China

    Karate = Japan / Okinawa

    Tae Kwan Do = Korea

    You will find all three in most areas, with TKD and Karate being more prevalent than Kung FU.  All three are/can be quality Martial Arts privided you find a good school.

  4. Tai Kwon Do is more of a sport that you score with punching and kicking ( mostly kicking). Karate is 50/50 sport /self defense. Kung Fu  all self defense.But all of it very effective in combat.

  5. -Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that emphases kicking far more than punching, it has influence from shotokan karate and taekkyon. Taekwondo uses a lot of jumping and flying kicks because they were originally used to kick horsemen off their steads.

    -Karate is a general term for a few Japanese/Okinawan martial arts under the name of a karate, a few of the styles are goju-ryu, kyushin, and shotkan. While taekwondo mostly uses kicks, karate is more balanced using punches, kicks, and sometimes joint-locks.

    -Kung Fu like karate, stands for many different martial arts

    some of them mimic animals while others a drunkard. Kung Fu uses many fluent techniques like a great dance but still with power.

    All of them are really great if your planning on joining them. Just be wary of the schools that don't really teach the art your looking for and instead just take your money.
