What is the difference between Tylenol & Ibuprofen?

My orthodontist told me to take 2 Ibuprofen every 4 hours for pain. Because i have been in a lot of pain. Also they told me to take 2 before each visit. So what is the difference between Tylenol & Ibuprofen?

  1. They are basically the same thing but acetaminophen doesn't reduce inflammation and Ibuprofen does.


  2. Okay Ibuprofen helps reduce the swelling of whatever hurts!! It takes care of the problem, because the problem is that whatever hurts is swelling, so it reduces it helping alleviate the pain!  Tylenol or Acetemetaphine works on the brain, not the pain itself. Instead of helping what is hurting like the Ibuprofen does it goes to the brain and stops the signals of pain being transmitted from the brain to the problem area. So you think there is no pain, when in reality it hasnt done anything to help but try to trick you. So stick with the Ibuprofen for your problem! I'm not saying that it works in every case but out of most of them it will over tylenol. Hope this helps!
