  1. ATA is a type of connector, UDMA is a mode of data transfer.

What you need to look at is:

    SATA (Serial ATA)

    or

PATA (Parallel ATA)/ aka IDE or EIDE

One of those is the type of hard drive you have/will be getting. SATA300 is faster/newer than SATA-150. EIDE is older and almost as fast as SATA-150. EIDE is getting older, harder to find, and more expensive than SATA-300.

If you haven't purchased a hard drive yet, get a mobo that supports SATA-300 and then buy that type of drive. If you already have a hard drive and you're looking to replace a current mobo, you'll need to find out what type it is before you can decided what mobo to get.

  2. only look for a motherboard that supports

    SATA (serial-ATA)

all the new hard drives are SATA

ultra-dma is an older hard drive type, you won't be happy with it

SATA uses a single small cable with a 1 way plug, very easy,

most new mobos support 4-6 sata drives

  3. UDMA is fast, mode new.
