  1. The degree in which the face of the head is angled. A three wood is designed for long distances or could be used off the tee. The angle of the face is much flatter than the five wood. The face on the head of a five wood has a lot of angle because it is used for shorter distances, so the ball is elevated more. Also a five wood might be used instead of a three wood if the lie of the ball is not perfect. Some would use a five wood in the rough but would only use the three wood in the fairway. There is also a four wood which has an angle on the face that is more pronounced than the three wood, but less than the five wood. Isn't golf a wonderful sport ?

  2. About $50

  3. I don't even know what this means, but a 2 wood, maybe?

  4. Usually about two inches in length and 5 degrees in loft.  The five wood is usually comparable to a 2 iron only a lot easier to hit for most of us.  The 3 wood is about 10 to 20 yards shorter than the driver off the tee.

  5. The loft.  My 3 wood is 14.5 degrees and my 5 wood is 18.5.

The 3 wood goes up to 260 yds. and the 5 wood only goes about 230.

  6. about 3 to 4 degrees and half an inch in length.

    3 wood is about 13 -15 degrees

    5 wood is around 17 - 19 degrees.

most 3 woods are about 43"

    5 woods 42.5"

the difference in loft and length affects ball flight and distance

    loft alsoaffects backspin.

probably wtmi but the question was a little vague

  7. The difference is the angle of the club-face. The 5-wood will lift the ball higher than the 3-wood. Thus the 3-wood will hit just that bit further.

You can play from a tee, or from a decent fairway, with either club.

  8. a 3 wood has between 13-16 degrees of loft and goes lower than a 5 wood and further.

a 5 wood had 17-21 degrees of loft and goes lower and with less distance

  9. Nice MIck.  Best answer yet!!!

  10. the angle of shot

  11. 3-wood has less loft (13 -15 degrees) as opposed to a 5-wood with has about 19 - 21 degrees. A 5-wood will go higher, but a 3-wood will go farther.

  12. 2 woods! LOL J/K, driving distance and the club head is bigger on a 3 wood as compaired to a 5

  13. lower the number farther the ball is to travel, the head usually is bigger too.

  14. A 3 wood tends to have a smaller degree of slope at the face of the club than a 5 wood; meaning, a 5 wood would get more lift on a ball, whereas a 3 wood wouldn't but would get more distance (give or take conditions).

  15. The three Wood is longer by about one inch and has less loft on the face. Typically a Three wood will have fifteen degrees of loft and five wood 20 degrees of loft. You can expect the three wood to fly further than the five Wood and have a lower flight.

  16. The higher the club number the more angle or loft the club face has. The more loft it has the higher the ball will go. The higher the ball goes the less distance it travels forward. So a three wood will have a lower flight path but travel further than a five wood.

  17. 3 in a wood is kinky.. 5 is a crowd..lol

  18. 2 degrees & about 25 yards.

  19. The loft of the club, the angle of the face of the club. The 3 wood has less angle = less height = more distance.   The 5 wood has more angle = more height = less distance.

  20. A 3 WOOD HAS A BIGGER HEAD, LESS ANGLED FACE AND HITS THE BALL FARTHER THAN A 5 WOOD.

  21. the loft of the face is different the 3 wood has less loft for a flatter trajectory, more distance.  5 wood more loft, higher trajectory less distance than the 3 wood.

  22. A 3 wood is on an angle approx 12-15 degrees and a 5 wood is angled approx 17-20 degrees. The lower the angle of the club face the lower the trajactory of the ball meaning a 3 wood will hit farther than a 5 wood.I typically use a 3 wood for shots between 225-300 yards and a 5 wood for shots 175-200 yards.

  23. 4 wood....just guessing.

  24. The 3 wood goes further because it isn't so lofted so the ball flies lower and in most cases the club will be slightly longer.

  25. Basically it comes down to the angle of the club head. A typical 3 wood has a loft angle of around 12 - 17 degrees, while a 5 wood has a loft angle of around 20 - 23 degrees, depending on the manufacturer.  The lower the loft, the further the ball will travel off the clubs face when hit. A 3 wood properly hit, will travel further than a 5 wood by approximately 20-30 yds.

  26. About 20 yards :-)

A 3-wood will have a lower loft than a 5-wood.  That is, the angle of the face of the club will be closer to vertical on the 3 than on the 5, so the ball won't fly as high, but should fly further.

Think of the 5-wood as giving you a "pop fly".

Note that my 5-wood is sometimes called a "fairway" wood.  it has a smaller head than my 1- and 3- woods but is easier to strike a ball in the grass.  My other words are hard for me to use except off the tee.

  27. A 3 wood has a longer shaft and the clubface has a smaller angle for less loft. A 5 wood is much less common, except among women and duffers. The 5 has quite a bit more loft than the 3, smaller head and shorter shaft.

A 5 wood is much easier to use than a 3, and will allow you to hit over tall obstacles (trees, I presume), but a 4 wood is usually adequate and is considered more of a standard club - usually a bag with 3 woods will include a 1,3 and 4 - many pros carry the 4 wood even though they can hit that far with an iron, but the 5 is much less common - except among amateurs. But there is no reason to be embarassed about using it if it works for you.

  28. 3 wood will go farther. if you need the distance.

  29. i have a 9 wood

  30. Degree of loft.
