I know the 6 cylinders have more power. I am looking for a new Toyota Camry and there is a big price difference between the 4 & 6 cyl cars.

Do 6cylinder cars last longer?

  1. V6 versions tend to come with a much higher level of standard equipment, which of course drives up the price in addition to just the extra cost of the engine.

In terms of longetivity no, this is a Toyota so you don't have to worry about that with either engine.  The 4-cylinder will get better mileage of course and if you drive like normal people you do not need the extra power of the V6.

  2. In general, 4 cyl engines are smaller, cheaper, lighter, less complicated, have less power, use less gas, and are cheaper to maintain. There should be no difference in 4 and 6 cyl reliability.

The power difference would be most noticeable when accelerating, merging with traffic on a highway, passing, or going up hills.

  3. The more cylinders or more volume in the cylinders, the more power the car will have. Four cylinder cars don't have as much power, but they get better gas mileage. A four-cylinder will generally cost less in a new car. Maintenance will be the same for either a four or six cylinder except there are two more spark plugs in a six-cylinder. If you don't need a lot of power and if getting more miles per gallon are a priority, I'd recommend you go with the four-cylinder. They still have plenty of power for most people.

  4. Very generally speaking, a 6 cylinder will have more power but will use more fuel in the process.

Speaking of the Camry specifically, their 4 cylinder engines are very good and suit most people just fine for everyday driving needs.

  5. a 6 has more power then a 4, but that,s understandable since a 6 has 2 more pistons then a 4.

  6. The 4 cylinder has a lot less power and gets slightly better mileage.  They should last about the same.

  7. Nope. As my pappy says (who's worked w/cars for the past 40 years) The more bells and whistles, the more there is to break, the less there is in your pocket. That being said, you're just going to be paying for more power and something that is popular right now. I've raced 6 cyls in my 4 cyl car A LOT. Uphill, down hill, on straight stretches. And I've only lost once (and that is because my fiancee was running the AC- that dumbass!)

  8. Four cylinder cars get better gas mileage and are very simple to maintain. That's about the only difference. The only crappy part is that the acceleration is a bit slower but oh well. 4 cylinders are also cheaper on insurance!

  9. Well, you've got the basics right, the six will give you more horsepower with a corresponding decrease in miles-per-gallon. Both the Toyota four and six cylinder engines are well made and generally will last equally as long. However, the temptation to over-rev and try to get your four banger Camry to perform like a Lancer EVO or old muscle car should be avoided as this can affect engine life (and it makes you look silly).
