What is the difference between a Cathedral Style Ceiling and a Vaulted Ceiling?

  1. there is no difference technically now. In older style (1800s) architecture cathedral ceiling originally reffered to a peaked roof as where vaulted ceilngs used to refer to a arched ceiling that followed a arched roof style. Now most people have twisted the meanings a bit- as where its often reffered to cathedral when there is a lower wall or a partial ceiling (as often seen in cape style homes) - as where its considered vaulted when there is a steeper slope or higher peak.
