  1. the Common Raven is between 56 and 69 cm (22 to 27 inches) in length, with recorded weights ranging from 0.69 to 1.63 kg (1.5 to 3.6 pounds). While the American Crow are 16-20 inches (about 40-50 cm) in length, of which the tail makes up about 40%. Each wing is around 7-8 in (27-34 cm) long. The bill length is on average 2 in (5 cm), varying strongly according to location.

  2. Ravens are merely crows' larger cousins.  In some places like california, ravens thrive and crows live elsewhere due to not enough food for all of the birds.

  3. Besides the descriptions of size and vocal call. Ravens tend to live high in mountains. They soar like hawks.

  4. In silhouette the raven's spread tail feathers form a vee or wedge along the bottom edge but the crow's tail is straight across the bottom edge making it look square cut. Roosting ravens can look tufty or less smooth when they fluff  their feathers up against the cold. This is more noticeable in the neck & breast making them look like they are wearing a neck muff. Juvenile crows also can look less tidy but are small.

Crows calls are different, sharper and less croaky. Raven's beak is strong and more curved in silhouette.
