  1. DUI can be "under the influence" from a variety of items, alcohol, drugs, etc. DWI is intoxication from alcohol

  2. Same thing.  Different states call it different things.  DUI (driving under the influence), DWI (driving while intoxicated) and OUI (operating under the influence)

  3. There may not be any, depending on the jurisdiction.

    The standard definition of DUI is Driving Under the Influence, which could be drugs or alcohol. DWI could be Driving While Intoxicated or Driving While Impaired.

  4. A DUI can be applied when driving under the influence of ANY type of drug, not just alcohol.

  5. The way I understand it driving under the influence means you are not completely intoxicated.  Driving while intoxicated explains itself.
