The Lancer is SLOW while the Lancer Evo is FAST, SUPER FAST!!! Zoom zoom...oh wait, that's Mazda.

A Mitsubishi Lancer is a Saloon, whilst a Lancer EVO (or Evolution) is a coupe or sports model. Also, I've just learnt that Lancer models (since Fiore) were used to become the base design for Proton Models of Saga, Iswara and Wira. Another thing is that if you've ever driven the older Lancer models, they come with long floor-mounted pedals, which in the sense of ergonomics is good as it prevents foot slippage. I've actually slipped off an hanging accelerator pedal before because of it full metallic finish and it's vertical lines design (helps slippage even faster).
