What is the difference between a Par 5, Par 4, and a Par 3?

Par 5 = a hole that allows 5 swings of the golf club to make "par" (even).  If you make it in 4 swings, it's a birdie.  6 swings = bogey.  

Par 4 = a hole that allows 4 swings of the golf club to make "par".  etc, etc

A Par 5 is a hard hole, a Par 4 is moderately hard, and Par 3 is the easiest type of hole or course there is (not including mini-golf/putt-putt)

Tee off counts as 1.  A fairway shot is 2.  A putt is 3.  That would be a par 3 hole.   If you can do it in 2, that's called a "birdie"
