  1. I don't have an answer for you, I just am so shocked that I'm seeing a intelligent political question on these boards that doesn't accuse a party/belief system/candidate/elected official of being Satan Incarnate that I had to write.

Wow, keep focusing on how the system works, rather than "Your candidate is a booty-head".  Dare we dream now we'll start seeing rational debates on the issues that doesn't drop into name calling and generalizations?

Probably my computer being powered by a herd of rainbow unicorns is more likely, but it's a nice idea.....

  2. Anybody, even obama, can be a JUNIOR Senator especially in a crooked state like Illinois. But it takes a real sleazy person to Govern a failing state for multiple terms. See bill clinton and Arkansas.

  3. The Governor is responsible for running the State.  A State Senator sits around discussing possible legislation with a bunch of other State Senators.  If a Governor doesn't deliver results, it's very evident.  If a State Senator doesn't deliver results, it's not really a big deal unless his or her constituents happen to notice that he or she hasn't really accomplished much by sitting around talking with the other state senators.

  4. As in the federal level, there are 3 co-equal branches of government at the state level: the executive branch, which is headed by the governor, the legislative branch is comprised of the state senate and state house of representatives, and the judicial branch or court system.

The legislative branch creates the laws of the state and the governor sees that they are carried out.

  5. The state Governor is the equal to the CEO of the state.  Which means they are the big kahuna.  A state senator is a minion who represents the state.  Like a special projects person.  They are normally around the craft level.

  6. The Governor is like the president of the state and is elected in a state wide election.  State senators, actually called representatives, are elected from the districts of the state with the idea that they represent the constituents of their districts.  They meet in the capital of the state and it is only a part-time job.  The districts are divided along county lines. The state government manages finances for schools, roads, taxes, as well as legislation specific to the state, like g*y marriage, gambling, abortion, euthanasia, healthcare, and the welfare system.

We also have US senators from each state that work on the federal level in Washington along with the US Representatives.  They are all elected in state wide elections.  Theirs is a full-time job, with many of them actually making it their career.

On the federal level most, but not all, members of the Senate and the House of Representatives are lawyers.  What does that tell you?

    I hope this helped.

New Orleans is being pounded again by Hurricane Gustav at 11:08 CDT.  So far the levees are holding but they have another 6 hours to go before they will get relief from the wind and rain.  The strom surge south of New Orleans is 11 feet.  I really feel for those people over there.  Both of my parents were from Louisana and I used to have relatives in New Orleans but I have not been in touch with them in over 20 years.
