I know I am over simplifying something that is probably really complicated, but I just want to know the main differences that separte these 2 animals.

  1. The most outstanding differences I know of betwen the two is the stinger type and social order. Bees can only sting once (they have barbed stingers that rip out the venom sac from the bees abdomen when they pull away), while wasps have smooth stingers and can sting repeatedly. Social systems also differ. Wasps do not have the castes of bees. Bees have queens, drones, and workers. Wasps do not.

  2. Although bees and wasps both belong to the Hymenoptera order, they are different in many ways, chief among them being that a worker bee can sting only once (and dies while doing so) and a wasp can sting repeatedly. Bees make honey, and wasps don't. Bees' nests are made of wax, and wasps' nests are made of paper and mud. Bees are vegetarians, while wasps like to eat spiders, flies, and caterpillars. Wasps are slimmer than bees.

  3. The most obvious difference is that a wasp has a different kind of stinger.  When a bee stings you, the stinger actually comes out of the bee's body, killing the bee.  A wasp doesn't have this problem.  It can sting you over and over again.
