  1. You may want to check at your local Thoroughbred/Quarter Horse race track. The jockeys use hand made whips(or sticks) as they are called in these circles. All of the ones they use will more than likely be too long and or too heavy than you need, but they will know who makes them for them.I apologize if there is some special requirements your sport may have that this solution does not meet.

  2. Bats are shorter and are more ideal for the hunter jumper shows. Crops are longer and are used more at the barn.

  3. Like the person above me said, the bats are shorter, and are used in hunter-jumper classes. Crops are longer, more seen in schooling and lessons but also seen in dressage classes.

Personally I find the bat easier to use. I have a quarter horse, and it takes a little bit to keep him going...some horses have a weird feeling about the crops and don't like them, so a bat is handy because it's little and doesn't show as much as the crop.

Bats also fit into the side of your field boot so that's so much handier than having to hold onto your crop the entire lesson!!

Unless the crop is in use it shouldn' t actually lie or touch the horse, because as it does that your horses sensitivity to that effect. I generally hold the bat in my right hand and in front of my leg/sort of touching it(knee area).

I would try your local area tackstore for crops and/or bats...they come in varieties of colors so you shouldn't have any issues with that...

As for online places you could try Statelinetack.com....countrysupply.com.....

    Or just google riding crops!
