What is the difference between a bittorrent peer and a bittorrent seeder?

I have bittorrent and always have heaps of peers but no seeders and so nothing downloads Why? is there a difference between a bittorrent peer and a bittorrent seeder?

  1. A seed has 100% of the content and is only uploading to peers.

    Peers have less than 100% and are downloading from seeds and other peers and uploading to other peers.

    The situation you describe is usually due to the network connection not being opened properly.  You can send out (which is why you connect to peers), but probably cannot receive incoming connections (which is why the seeds would not connect).

    If your network status is showing green, then I do not know why.  But if it is red or yellow, that would be the reason.

    If you have the latest version of BitTorrent, then you can use this guide to setting uTorrent up for best speeds as they are identical clients.  The guide has info on clearing network status and other info to help speed downloads:

  2. A peer is the same as you trying to download the content.

    A see is the person who has the content and is sharing.
