What is the difference between a cartoon and animation?

Okay, I like can tell there is a difference I just don't know how to put it into words, like I know they aren't the same but how do explain the difference between the 2, thnx, (=

  1. Cartoon in drawn and animation is animated on a computer.


  2. OK. How do I put this... I don't know. (just kidding.) scroll down for more. (don't u just hate it when ppl do that?) (just kidding again.) an animation is generally shorter. It is one as you might say, episode. a cartoon is more spread out and has a plot line. (rarely.)

  4. Let's see....

    I've always thought that cartooning was a reference to hand drawings done in such a manner that would produce animation(movement).

    And that animation was a reference to ordinary real life objects being photographed in a manner to produce movement that otherwise was not possible.

    It's late so I'm probably not entirely correct and you're right, to a layman, it really is hard to describe the two apart from the other......
