What is the difference between a castle and a keep?

Is there a difference? For that matter what about a fortress?

  1. A keep is the most defended area of a castle.  It was used as a dungeon or prison.


  2. A fortress would be considered impregnable.  I thought a keep was just a safe secluded area.  Castles are big houses for kings and princes. /
