  1. By definition a battery is a number of similar articles, items, or devices arranged, connected, or used together. e.g. battery of hens used in egg production.

Battery is short for a battery of cells. When we call a D cell or an AA cell a battery we are using the term incorrectly, whereas a 9 volt battery or 6 volt battery is correct because within the enclosure is a battery of cells.

A good rule of thumb, if the voltage is around 1.5 then it is a cell, if it is more than that, it is a battery.

All matter is comprised of atoms.

  2. a cell is a single device, whereas a battery is a group of cells.

yes, it is made up of atoms.

for eg. A 9V battery is a stack of six 1.5V cells.

  3. a battery is a group of cells connected in series

a battery is made up also of atoms since it is matter

but the ions inside it causes the battery to energize or shall i say give electricity

  4. a cell is a single thing which stores chemical energy whereas a battery is multiple cells and yes they are also made up of atoms

    (electrolytes to be precise)
