  1. Tornados are columns of descending air surrounded by walls of strong upward currents that pop out of clouds and form over land.

    A tropical cyclone, or hurricane, is a storm system of low atmospheric pressure area near the Earth's surface that usually forms over warm bodies of water which feed the storms. The have a counterclockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise rotation in the Southern Hemisphere.

    Both are caused by winds from opposite direction blowing into one another in warm, damp air.


  2. A hurricane encompasses a huge land/sea area while a tornado is a concentrated storm less than a mile wide.
