What is the difference between a degree in wildlife biology and fisheries and wildlife?

I don't know what school i need to go to because it seems there are so many different wildlife fields and I don't understand what the differences are between them. I what to work with the envirnment to help wildlife habitats. I want to save animals from being captured for public entertainment. I want to conduct some research to discover why an animal behaves the way it does.

  1. There are a lot of new fields because the environment has become a major thing...maybe take a verity of courses and find out what you want to do.

You would have to look at the curriculum at each university to see what the real difference is.  In some schools, wildlife is part of the agricultural department.  In others, it's part of biology.  It varies from place to place.  A lot of times the difference is just in the name. You might also want to look at wildlife management, conservation biology, and ecology.

  3. The difference would appear to be in whether fish are included or just terrestrial forms. You will learn about wildlife habitats in Ecology, supplemented by Mammalogy, Ornithology, and Herpetology (Ichthyology and Fishery Biology, if you are interested in fish). Animal behavior is covered in Ethology. Capturing of animals for public entertainment is not covered but you might want to look at the annual report of a major zoo to find out what goes on there other than "public entertainment".

  4. If you're just starting, get your prerequisites done first.  This gives you time to see the differences and to form your decision on what field is best suited for your skills.
