  1. A paddock is generally known to be smaller, about the size for maybe 1 or 2 horses, and pretty close to the barn.

A field is a bit bigger, usually farther away from the barn, with room for a couple horses.

A pasture is the biggest, with quite a bit of room. It is usally more wild, perhaps some trees or creeks, while a paddock and field are generally emptier.

  2. It depends upon what country you're in.  In California, USA a "Paddock" is a stall that has an open area without cover, this can be anywhere from a 12 x 24' run on upwards.  In Australia, a "Paddock" is another word for a smaller pasture.  Field and pasture are basically the SAME thing, however a pasture can be anywhere from 1-2 acres all the way up to hundreds of acres.  "Field" I believe is anything under 5 acres because of the accessability.  I've had to walk 100 acre pastures looking for horses in my youth (Now I 4x4 it! LOL)

  3. I think a field is unfenced, a pasture is large and a paddock is small

  4. I consider a paddock an enclosed area that leads off of your stall, where you just open the back stall door and let the horse out into the Paddock and if you wish, allow free access to and from the stall.

Pasture and field I consider to be one and the same...all fenced, but much larger, allowing more freedom and interaction between horses.

All are fenced, in one way or the other.

  5. They are all pretty much the same thing. But some people may consider them different, or use the different names to distinguish between different ones.

  6. generally the same thing. i consider a paddock less than an acre, a pasture from 1- 5 acres, a field 5+ acres, a meadow what you see in bambi, and a field that happens to be around 45+ acres is more of acreage, square miles, the valley, foothills, ect...

  7. Usually they are all about the same. Paddocks are typically smaller than pastures and fields are usually a lot larger than pastures.
