  1. Flash floods come very suddenly and sometimes with little warning.  They are caused by heavy rain falling very quickly.  Floods happen more gradually and usually take longer to dissipate as the ground is already saturated from a long lasting rain.


  2. A flash flood would be called a warning since it comes without any warning, a flood watch means that the potential is there for possible flooding.
