  1. the most basic difference is a two-stroke motor burns a gas and oil mixture while a four stroke motor burns straight gasoline.

  2. two stroke engine completes the combustion cycle 1 complete revolution of the crankshaft, this is achieved by the use of ports in the cylinder bore.

a four stroke engine completes the combustion cycle in 2 (4 strokes)revolutions of the crankshaft and uses valves.

you'll have to forgive this expanation, i've never actually thought about writing it down before and i'll try and keep it clear !?

very simply put this may explain the "four stroke".......

Suck, squeeze, bang, blow (four strokes of the piston) up-down-up-down

suck ......is air or air/fuel being sucked into the bore (this is when the piston is travelling down which causes a partial vacuum.

squeeze...this happens as the piston travels back up the bore (this compresses the air or air fule mixture)

bang...this is the ignition which occurs around the same time the piston reaches the top of the bore, this in turn causes the fuel air mixture to rapidly expand (this is where the power comes from in the cycle)

blow...this is the exhaust stroke and occurs when the piston is travelling back up the bore after the combustion stroke and is where the burnt gasses are expelled

  3. One cost; twice as much to buy, twice as much to fix, weights twice as much, is twice the size, and is twice as hard to repair  yourself. The other isn't made or allowed to be sold commercially in many countries anymore.
