What is the difference between a gymnastics leotard and dancing leotard?

Question

I am a father with two girls in gymnastics and have no clue about the difference.

the gymnastics leotards can move in a whole lot more and the dancing leotards kinda keeps u in place u can order the real ones off like but like if u go to Wall-mart and get a leotard or something or a cheap place u can't tell the different so to be sure i would order them off line like if u just type in on the answers bar gymnastics 2 websites at the top will be there but that's the only way to know for sure

There really isn't much of a differnce in fit or cut, it's all in the material and style. Dancing leotards tend to be more velvety and frilly, where as gymnastics leotards are just basic spandex. When I was growing up I took gymnastics (12 years total) and always wore a black leotard.

*style: tank, spaghetti strap, cross, low neck, high neck

*pattern/design: gymnastics leos usually have a more wide range of colors and usually have designs (not one solid color) but can be solid

dance leotard:

*dance recital leo: usually has color and tutu

a gym leo is more flexable it's available in brighter colors and is useually thinner and silky

a ballet leo is usually in black or pink is thick and lined and usually cotton sometimes they come with a skirt also the brands for ballet leos are

Gymnastics leotards are generally fancier than dancing leotards, also they don't have a skirt. Try these websites for quality gymnastics leotards:

Also, if your girls are older, I would not recommend getting a unitard (the leotards with the built in shorts)

Gymnastic leotard is more flexible. Dancing leotard holds you in more, but you can only tell the difference with really expensive leotards. With the regular, $20 ones there is no difference and really, it doesn't matter.

There are very few differences,the biggest ones being in competition styles. Very few people wear nylon leotards for either activity anymore. Velvet is more common in the gym, but not always, cami straps are very rare in the gym, usually seen more in ballet classes.

Usually the material is the same, and avoid skirts for gymnastics. Gymnasts can go with velvet, lycra, or cotton, no big deal. Cost effectively, stick with a solid colour. If theyre little, they might want to wear a unitard, as they get older, theyll probably want a leo with shorts.
