  1. Souvlaki are sometimes called the hamburgers of Greece.

Souvlaki is similar to the middle eastern kebab: various meats cooked on a huge vertical rotisserie and then sliced off and placed into pita bread with salad, plus a sauce of cucumber and yoghurt, with garlic.

A gyro is also a fast food - It is a kind of meat "roasted" on a vertical rotisserie. By extension, gyros may refer to the pita sandwich it is often served in, with various salads and sauces. The most common fillings are tomato, onions, and tzatziki sauce.

    They are very similar

  2. Gyro is a ground meat mixture, formed into a loaf, then grilled and thinly sliced. Souvlaki is cubes of meat (usually chicken, lamb or pork), usually skewered and grilled, like kababs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Souvlaki). I've made Alton Brown's gyro recipe, it's pretty good for a home made version: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton...
