Question:

What is the difference between a hurricane and a cyclone?

Seems to me that these are the same thing. Air currents out of control in water.

  1. Nothing. Just the names are different. A cyclone is just another name for a hurricane. A hurricane, typhoon, and cyclone are the same storms just different names.

    -In the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Oceans are called hurricanes.

    -In the Western Pacific they are called typhoons

    -In the Indian Ocean they are called cyclones

  2. I think Hurricanes are only in the Atlantic while Cyclones are in the Pacific.  Otherwise I believe they are essentially the same type of weather system.

  3. It all depends where it's located - In the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, or eastern Pacific, it's a hurricane; if it's in the western Pacific or Indian oceans, it's a cyclone.
