what is the difference between a laptop, webbook, notebook, and net book.

what companies make notebooks?

will this net book have things like word and can i put linux in it?

  1. Laptop is the full blown laptop we all know

    netbook is used for on the go internet and usually has 8.9 inch screen or less, has less capabilities, like no CD drive or a big harddrive.

    webbook is the same as netbook.

    companies like Asus, Acer, HP and IBM make netbooks, soon Dell is releasing the Dell 910 netbook starting from $299.

Those are usually just different names the manufacturers give their products, but they could be indicative of their capabilities, for example a web/net book may not have much CPU or graphics power because it's made just for web/email/IM. As far as putting linux on it, it's best to pick a distribution and then start looking a specific laptops hardware and looking to see if the components are compatible with that distribution.
