  4. The lion (Panthera leo) and the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) are both members of the cat family, Felidae, but are completely different species in different genera.

The lion is the second largest of all cats, after the tiger, weighing up to 550lb. It is found predominantly on the African savannah, though there is a small population of Asiatic lions in the Gir Forest of India. Lions have a uniform tawny coat (though cubs have faint spots for camouflage which fade as they age), and possess a tuft of fur on the tip of the tail. Male lions are unique amongst cats in having a mane - a thick ruff of fur around the neck, which protects the throat during fights and makes him appear larger and more intimidating to rivals and more attractive to females. Lions are the only truly social cats, living in groups called prides. Here is an image of a lion couple:

The cheetah is the fastest-running animal on Earth, reaching speeds of over 60mph for short distances. It is also found mainly in Africa, though there is a small relict population of around 30 animals in Iran. Its whole body is designed for speed - it is slender and lightly-built, with long legs, a small head and a long tail. Unlike those of other cats, its claws are only partially retractile, helping it grip the ground while running. The background colour of its coat is pale gold, patterned with solid black spots. It has distinctive 'tear-marks' on the face, running from the corner of each eye to the corners of the mouth. Here's an image:

  5. elephants.

see how stupid it is when you answer a question without reading the whole thing.

  6. A lion has a mane, lives in a pride(large family group), and have immense canines, females hunt by ambush in groups (3-6 usually) with immature males, and have a very loud roar that can be heard for up to a mile. The male is called a lion and a female is called a lioness. A cheetah is smaller, chases its prey with speeds of up to 65 mph using its tail as a steering device, and has spots on its body as well as lines on its face, and it lives alone except when mating and raising young. It also is unable to roar but can "meow" and hiss (not unlike a cat). Both male and female are called a cheetah. they both live in Africa and the lion will sometimes steal a cheetahs meal while a cheetah will sometimes eat from the leftovers of a lions meal. Note: this is not a symbiotic relationship.
