  1. Generally mopeds are not street legal. Scooters that are street legal and do not require a motorcycle license are under 50 cc.

  2. Scooters are generally 50cc or less and therefore don't go as fast and aren't street legal.

  3. design...

    traditionally both were 50cc or less and can be driven legally in most states on secondary roads without a motorcycle endorsement, however...

    a moped uses pedals to start the motor and has pedals to assist in hill climbs and things of that nature whereas a true scooter has a battery to start it and uses only the motor for climbing hills and other running around.

    typically, although not required, a moped looks like a small motorcycle with pedals on it while a scooter looks like some variant of a Vespa.

  4. A scooter is just gas driven but a moped can be peddled.  It used to be that way at least

  5. A scooter is a type of moped.

    A moped is ANY vehicle with 2 wheels, with an engine size of 50cc or less and a maximum speed of 45kph/31mph. This could be a 'scooter' design or a motorBIKE design, as long as it meets the requirements.

    You can ride a moped from the age of 16.

    Before 1977, mopeds were made with pedals as a means of power, but this isn't a part of modern day mopeds.

    A scooter is, as the name suggests, scooter shaped. It usually has a 'step-through' design where the feet are placed directly infront of the knees. Scooters can be bought with engine sizes of anything up to about 250cc.

    Hope this helped x

  7. They are often used as interchangeable terms.

    Most people use moped as a motor bike with pedals on it, because that's what they originally started as.

    The state of kansas defines a moped as;

    'A motor bicycle cycle, or moped, is every device having two tandem wheels or three wheels, which may be propelled by either human power or helper motor, or by both, and which has - A motor which produces not more than 3.5 brake horsepower; a cylinder capacity of not more than 130 cubic centimeters; an automatic transmission; and the capability of a maximum design speed of no more than 30 miles per hour.

    If a moped does not fit this defintion, it is classified as a motorcycle and the operator must have a motorcycle endorsement to operate it legally.'

    In most states tho, limit's 50
