  1. SD stands for Super Dollfie and MSD stands for Mini Super Dollfie.  These are dolls made by Volks in Japan.  SD are bigger (taller . . . about 57 to 63cm in height).  MSD are smaller and cheaper.  To add to the confusion, SD are also called SD13, SD16, etc.  The number designates the approximate age group the doll is suppose to be (SD16 is 16 years old).

Many people use SD to talk about all BJD dolls that are in the same size/height range.  This causes problems, especially in buying outfits and shoes for these dolls and things sold for SD bjds don't always fit every bjd in the 60cm range.  In reality, only dolls made by Volks are really MSD or SD.  But these designations have come to be taken as every bjd in those size ranges, regardless of who makes them by a lot of people.
