  1. A celebrity can be someone well-known even if they didn't do anything important.

A star is someone who is famous because they actually do stuff.

  2. A celebrity is someone who is popular in the public's eye for doing something the public likes, like singing, dancing or some kind of sport etc.

A star is one who is really good at it.

    Examples:

Christina Aguilera is a star (amazing voice) while Britney Spears is a celebrity (she tries but can't sing, but the public loves her anyway because she's cute and is always in some kind of trouble).

Robert Downey Jr. is a star because when he plays a role in a movie, he makes you believe that he's really the character he's playing while David Spade is a terrible actor but people find him funny for some reason.

  3. Celebrity - someone who is famous, sometimes for no real reason - like Nicole Richie.

Star - someone who performs or "stars" in something - like an actor, actress, musician or dancer
