  1. Here's the info from wikipedia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultana_%28...

    Interesting... I've learned something new.

Sultana are raisins from Turkey/Iran... while in the USA we would call them Golden Raisins.

The Sultana grape was renamed in the USA as "Thompson Seedless" which is a seedless green grape.

Regular dark raisin are made from Thompson Seedless grape, but turn dark due to natural oxidation and the drying process.  However, the golden color is achieved by using sulfur dioxide so the light color is retained.

  2. There are three types of grapes: Sultan, Zante, and regular grapes. Sultan are white seedless grapes. Dried Sultans are called Sultana. Dried Zante are called Currants. Dried regular grapes are called raisins. Sultana are bigger than Currant and smaller than normal grapes.

In United States, over 90% of the golden raisins in reality are Sultana

  3. Sultana is green grapes dried. Raisins are purple grapes

  4. A raisin is any dried grape, and a sultana is the raisin of a particular type of grape, the Thompson Seedless.

The words are used differently depending on where you're from - in America "raisin" is used as the general term, but in Australia "sultanta" is the general term, whereas we use "raisin" to describe a bigger sort of dried grape.

  5. A sultana is a raisin made from a white grape.  They are typically smaller than a regular "raisin."

  6. The difference is in the color of the grape that was dried.  Generally "raisins" are the dark red, blue, or purple grapes that have been dried in the sun or dehydrated.  "Sultanas" refer to light colored grapes (white, pink, golden) that have been dehydrated.  Basically it is just two terms for dried grapes.
