  1. Flex stands for flexibility.   Regular flex is more flexible than a stiff.  So if your shaft is too flexible, your ball will fly all over the place and high causing lost in distance.

If your shaft is too stiff, your ball will fly too low and have a tendency to go right (slice).

So the best thing is to measure your swing speed, and get the right Shaft flex.

  2. The regular flex shaft is for someone who has a slow swing speed.  If you have a high swing speed, and use a regular shaft, it produces a slice because the club head will not be square at impact.  The stiff flex helps this.

  3. you could measure you swing speed at a golf store and if you have a swing speed of 88mph or higher you can use a stiff flex but if you dont have a high swing speed and use a stiff slex you it will be harder to hit the ball higher

  4. think of 'flex' as the whippyness (word?) of the shaft.  Generally a 'stiff' flex is intended for players with a faster swing speed, (above 90 mph) The stiff shaft basically means that the shaft can keep up with the speed of your swing.  A high swing speed with a regular flex means that the shaft can't keep up with the swing speed resulting most often in an open club face at impact resulting in a slice.
