What is the difference between a regular petunia....?

and a 'volunteer' petunia? I can't find anywhere what the difference is.

A volunteer is one that comes up on its own. You did not intend for it to come up. The good Lord or a bird just planted it and it came up on its own. A regular petunia, is one that you planted the seed or set the plant out.
