  1. robots move

  2. a robot usually has some sort of artificial intelligence unit or software.

  3. While most people like to think of robots as those like "Data" on Star Trek, or perhaps R2-D2, The general consensus among roboticists is that any machine that is able to "sense, think, and act" qualifies as a robot.

While this is a very broad definition, it allows for a very sharp boundary between a robot and a machine.

For instance, according to this definition, a washing machine counts as a robot, but a typical hand drill would not. This is because a washing machine "senses" the level of water, understands when it needs to transition to various states (soak, spin cycle, etc), and can act on each of these states. However, a typical hand drill doesn't have any "smarts" to know when to turn off or on.

You will notice that the wikipedia article has a similar (if more complicated answer), attached as a reference.

    Hope this helps...

  4. A robot has artificial intelligence, while a machine usually has to be operated by a person, though some people classify robots as machines.

  5. a robot is a type of machine, the difference is that a robot must have some sort of programming for it to function properly.

  6. All robots are machines, but not all machines are robots.

  7. a machine is device that transmits or modifies force or motion, so in other words a machine is something that does work and a robot is something that does something on command

so its like asking whats the difference between a dog and a great dane

the great dane is a dog

so a robot is a machine but a machine can be something else than a robot

sort of like a dog can be a great dane but it can also be a german sheperd

  8. This is a hard question to answer I work in robotics and I get asked this all the time by people that think robots are going to take over the world and all this other junk. Machines need operators, robots use programs to do their job robots cannot think on their own. The program tells them what to think and how to react, and they do not have artificial intelligence they are just as smart or stupid as the guy writing their program. Robots will not take over the world by their selves in order for this to happen someone would have to program them to have seen everything and did everything that could ever be imagined. This is outrageous to think this would take millions of lines of codes that is not the slightest bit easy to write. Robots are very good at doing jobs that humans can't such as working in very hot or cold places an doing extremely dangerous jobs, robots also don't develop home problems, where they get in fights with there wives and don't focus, which in people cause accidents and who cares if a robot loses a arm but a person it ruins their life.

  9. so many varablies here, a robot can do programed tasked and motions that a machine without a computer can do, a lawn mower is a machine, a washer is a machine, people have to interface with machines to get a end result, a robot programed can do multi tasked functions, without supervision, food, drinks, and restroom breaks.

  10. A robot is a type of machine. Robots in literature are machines shaped like humans, generally fairly intelligent, and capable of human-like  behavior.

Industrial robots aren't very bright, and don't look much like humans. They generally consist of a single arm with multiple joints, have an actuator or implement where the hand goes, are generally programmable, and replace humans in performing certain repetitive tasks.

Ultimately, the manufacturer, or his marketing folks, determines if it is a robot. We now have little vacuum cleaners and self-guided off road vehicles that are considered robots!

  11. depends on how you take it.

Computers and T.Vs = robots that kill your eyes and are an ad for glasses.

Telephone = robots that kill your ears

Cars = robots that create polution.

    and more.

But if you are a kid and dont know what a robot is, a robot is an electronican device that follows your commands and is made out of steel. A robot is practically a machine.

  12. a robot is like a machine but can do certain things it is told to do and a machine is required to do only one certain thing

  13. A robot will generally perform a task using for lack of a better term  "motor functions."

  14. robots have a brain and can thing and are more intelligent but machines have programs burning in here memory so they do the same thing repeatedly
