Question:

What is the difference between a scooter and a moped?

I am trying to do a poll to get the average person's opinion, not learn about it myself.

  1. A moped is motorized and you sit on it.  A scooter is not motorized and you stand on the platform.  Your body does more work with a scooter than a moped.


  2. A moped has pedals so it can be ridden as a bicycle with the engine shut off. A scooter doesn't. I don't know if it still holds true, but back in the 80's when I was a kid, we all had mopeds because you didn't need a license to ride them, as long as they had pedals, they were considered motorized bicycles, even though I've seen quite a few of them back in the day that went over 60 mph after some of the kids modified them. If it had no pedals, it was considered a motorcycle and you had to have a motorcycle license to ride them.

  3. They are the same thing, its just some people call them mopeds and some scooters.  Personally, I call them Mopeds.
