  1. 14 lbs = one stone, it is an English measure of weight.

Probably came from building trade. Buy the stones for an edifies by tons and can estimate how many in a ton, regular shape stones.

  2. A stone is 14 pounds.

  3. There are 14lbs (pounds) in one stone, and 16 oz (ounces) in one lb.

Us English people use stones - simplifies things so rather than saying 130 lbs we'd say 9 stone 4lbs.

    Hope this helps :o)
