What is the difference between a transgenic mouse and a knock-out mouse? Why is it that transgenic mice are good models for dominantly inherited disorders while knockout mice are good models for recessivel inherited disorders?

  1. Transgenic have received a foreign gene from another species. SInce most mice will only get a single copy, it will only be seen if it is dominant.

    Knockout mice have both copies of a gene disabled: it is like having two copies of a recessive allele
