  2. Well alcohol dependence would just mean that the person needs to drink to feel good, and does just that, every day. Alcohol abuse could be more broad, for example, binge drinking is a form of alcohol abuse. I'm not sure if a blackout problem indicates alcohol dependence. Maybe your man just doesn't know his limits whenever he drinks, even if it's not every day.

  3. alcohol abuse is like binge drinking (very common at parties).  dependence is when you need it, and you'll even binge when no one else is with you.  you can't stop.
