  1. An OBGYN can deliver babies

  2. A gynecologist is a physician who has a successfully completed specialized education and training in the health of the female reproductive system, including the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases.

An obstetrician is a physician who has successfully completed specialized education and training in the management of pregnancy, labor, and pueperium (the time-period directly following childbirth).

And an obstetrician/gynecologist is a physician specialist who provides medical and surgical care to women and has particular expertise in pregnancy, childbirth, and disorders of the reproductive system.

  3. OB GYN is a specialist which deals in child birth problems and a GYN is broader term which includes all types of female physical disorders specific to women only.

  4. A gynaecologist basically is a physician who specialises in the treatment of the female reproductive system such as the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. Gynaecologists can perform surgeries (such as laparoscopy or laparotomy) to diagnose or treat conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer and perform hysterectomies. In simple terms gynaecology plainly means “the science of women”.

Some or most gynaecologists are also obstetricians (called OB/Gyn's).

Obstetrics is the surgical speciality dealing with the care of a woman and her baby during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium (the period shortly after birth). Midwifery is the equivalent non-surgical specialty. Most obstetricians are also gynaecologists (OB/Gyn's).

In obstetric practice, an obstetrician sees a pregnant woman on a regular basis to check the progress of the pregnancy, to verify the absence of problems and diseases, to monitor the state of pre-existing disease and its possible effect on the ongoing pregnancy.

I hope this helps answer your question. Good luck :)

  5. You go to the OB GYN when you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. The Gynecologist is for normal female checkups.
