  1. By definition, an antibiotic is a substance produced by one organism that is able to kill or inhibit a bacteria.  Penicillin and most other antibiotics are made by fungi.

    An antiseptic is simply a substance that can reduce the numbers of viable microbes in an area, such as isopropanol.  An antibacterial targets bacteria specifically.


  2. antibiotics kill organisms, typically we think of an antibiotic as something we take internally.  Antibacterial is a word we've recently started using, when talking about soaps that kill bacteria...probably because everyone knows what bacteria is, and this will see more soap.  Antiseptic means "against infection".  Antiseptics are usually topical- something you put on the outside of your body.

    You can add antimicrobial to your list.

    These words are essential interchangeable.
