I like to design buildings. i.e, paint, furniture, the shape of the building etc. So which one of the two involves the above mentioned?

For which do we have to study a lot?

Is architectural engineering more difficult than medicine?

If i opt for architecture, will it be stressful later and will i have no free time?

In architecture do we have to travel to different areas or just make the construction as a drawing?

  1. It sounds as if you would like interior design better.  It is more about actual design, harmony, color, shape...etc.  Architechture involves a lot of math and techinical things.  Structural aspects of building, the surrounding environment, people building for (and a lot more things).  In my school, architechture is one of the hardest majors, right up there with medicine.  It is INTENSE to say the least.  You have to really love it to do it, and later on in life there is a high possibility that you wont become an arcitect.

Probably depending on what you do, you will have to travel.  If you really want to be an arcitect, is it essential to travel and look at the site.

If you're planning on slacking in college, and do not want tons of stress later in life, I would go with interior design.

  2. It is important to differentiate between "interior designer" and "interior decorator".  Decorators simply throw pillows, drapes, splash some paint and call it a day.  True interior designers are licensed by the state and have to understand life safety codes, exiting, ADA, just like architects.  Their job involves space planning and overlaps the fields of interior decorating and architecture.  Interior designers may be responsible for dividing a space with walls, doors, windows, furniture and they must do so in a manner that does not pose a threat to public safety.  Architects can do all of the above, but they focus on the building as a whole, inside and out.  Their role expands to include exterior construction (roofing, exterior walls, parking, site plan, waterproofing, structural materials) as well as coordinating other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural engineers).  However, since architects don't spend everyday selecting finishes or furniture, they are not always as adept as interior designers when it comes to interior design/decorating.

I guess you could think of the architect as the conductor of a symphony and the interior designer as a lead violin.

  3. Well the design of the actual building is and architects job and , painting, furniture ect... is an interior designers job.

You will probably have to study for architecture more, my cousins architectural degree is taking her 4 years to complete.

As an architect you will draw on paper, build models and view the construction site to check if its going according to plan.

  4. One is for public sell the other is more of your own ideas to be sold.

  5. Architecture is creating/designing the building itself. So, your house is designed, not built, by architects.

Interior Designing is simply "decorating" the inside of the building, and it deals with how to develop the most functional space.
