I know that the frequency is lower, but what type of sounds would you hear at 200 hz that you will not hear at 100 hz?

  1. Human ear response to 200 hz, lower than that has no sense at all. A big drum produces about 200 hz. We do not need a music instrument produces lower than a big drum because it is no more amusement (hear that become painful). You may try it with 60 hz that using in electrical  system. We called it HAM. We design circuit just want to get rid of this HAM noise.

A motor boat has noise frequency about 20 hz.

  2. lower frequencies are lower sounds....

  3. One octave.

  4. one octave or 100 Hz is the difference.  Your ear can hear down to about 20-30Hz. The deepest organ note is at 16Hz.

I'd rate 100-200hz as middle bass, something any speaker should be able to reproduce.

In fact the usual cutoff frequency for the 0.1 channel in 5.1/6.1/7.1 sound is at 80 Hz. Which means the subwoofer only reproduces sounds below 80 Hz.
