What would the difference be between being self conscience and being worried about others' well being? Is there a difference? What is it?

  1. Difference?  No relation.  Having self confidence issues should have nothing to do with  compassion for others.  When we are self conscious we tend to worry about what others think about us, not worries about their well being.  I just don't see a relation between these two.

  2. People have many misconceptions about what self-consciousness means.  Wow.

There is nothing wrong with being self-conscious.  Anyone and everyone who cares about their own health, their own well being, their own looks, what have you... is being self-conscious.  Being aware of your environment and how that environment effects you IS being self-conscious.

    Its a virtue.

Like being "anti-social"... another grossly misunderstood term.  I know anti-social people who are more outgoing and talkative and friendly than anyone else.  Being anti-social means you go against the social norms.  In some ways, it too is a virtue, when it implies that everyone else is a blind, obsessed, conformist.  But in the case of extremes, such as criminalism or anarchism, it is a flaw.

"Introversion" is yet another misunderstood term.  To say someone is introverted often implies they are shy.... that is not the case.  To be introverted is to be introspective... its to look inward for answers and understanding... to think and intellectually work out your world and yourself.  An extrovert is someone who probably never thinks, just superficially reacts... going through the motions of society like a domesticated animal. They think and care only about the material world around them. They care what others think and feel about them, and not what they think of themselves.  Their pride, confidence, and identity revolves around other peoples opinions and reactions to them.

  3. it's self-conscious.  of course there's a difference.

self-conscious is being shy.  Caring too much about others is over-sympathetic

  4. that's a psych Q

  5. Being "self aware" or fully conscious is one thing.  It refers to self KNOWLEDGE and indicates that you are detached (emotionally stable) but capable of empathy for others.  NOT that you are excessively "worried" about others.

But the term self-conscious is used to describe extreme shyness which is an example of a conditioned phobia or fear of others opinions.  Fears like this are usually termed "illusions" because they are learned beliefs from experiences in early development.

When the word conscience is used, it refers to one's belief system (conditioned ego identity) which makes a person feel ashamed of their behavior or uncomfortable and conflicted about a choice.  It is usual for people to think of their conscience as a good thing, but it is rarely the case.

  6. self conscience means that you are too pre-occupied with what others think of you. Caring for others means you forget about yourself, and think only about the well being of others.
