  1. what you subscribe to as standard analogue tv

satelite tv can be either with a dish or with a special decoder box like your basic cable,(direct tv)  satelite can be FTA (free to air or a pay type digital and high definition. but it has a 18-33" disk on your house (the other two are straight wired in to your home) so there is three types of cable two types of satelites

  2. Satellite is exactly that - there is a satellite orbiting earth and is streaming a data stream towards the planet.  You need a dish and satellite receiver to use this method.  Heavy weather can cause interruptions as well as direct line-of-sight blockage such as tree limbs or debris/icy build-up on your satellite dish or heavy wind causing your dish to wobble/move.  The dish must be aimed at the satellite at all times to receive the signal.

Cable is data pushed over a physical cable, usually burried, and is ultimately routed directly to your house where it connects to a cable box.  It is immune to weather (except for power outtages caused by weather) and is generally very reliable.

  3. You get satellite TV from a dish, not cable. (The dish is now generally put on the top of your house. The old-fashioned ones are huge and are in the ground.) Satellite generally has many more channels than the cable. Cable sometimes has rewind capabilites, but I am not sure about satellite, cause ive never had it.
