Question:

What is the difference between centrifugal force and g-force?

Specifically I'm wondering... when you're in a car and you're taking a tight turn... a sharp left turn on a highway on-ramp for example. As you're taking the turn you feel yourself being pushed to the right of the car .. and the faster you take the turn, the harder you get pushed to the outside. If you drove even faster and your car's handling wasn't great, your car may even skid to the right and you try to make the left turn bend.

Is that because of centrifugal force or because of g-force?

Or perhaps a combo of the two - and if it is a combo, what forces are the g-force and what forces are the centrifugal.

  1. Umm g-force is caused by GRAVITY fool, and pulls you IN, and centrifugal force is an APPARENT OUTWARD forced on an object in an angular reference frame.  One is caused by gravity and the other is caused by a acceleration (in this case a change in direction)

  2. Centrifugal force is caused by spinning and pushes you away from the center, g force is just gravity. They are kind of opposites.

  3. One is artificial the other is natural.

  4. Centrifugal 'force' is not really a force in physics, it is more of feeling. It's defined as the 'force' that pushes you away from a center point when you are spinning in a circle and the direction of the 'force' goes away from the axis of rotation. G-force is gravitational force that will be directed at the center of the largest gravitational field. Centripetal force would be opposite to centrifugal 'force'.

  5. ahhh i remember this is freshman year physics, last year.

    i hated physics.

  6. from wat i remember in physics centrifugal force is the force attributed to a object going in a circular motion like a ball on a string. The force acting on the ball at the end of the string spinning causing it to want to leave the spinning system is centrifugal force. G-forces are the effects of high energy motions. they are the forces due to gravity that are measured when a system is no longer in equilibrium. It basically, if this make sense, is the measurement of the acceleration of gravity on an object.

  7. centifigual force is cause by going in a circle.  G-force is caused by going in a straight line at a very high rate of speed.

  8. Centrifugal force (from Latin centrum "center" and fugere "to flee") is an apparent force acting outward from the axis of rotation of a rotating reference frame.

g-force (also g-load) is a measurement of an object's acceleration expressed in gs. It quantifies the reaction force resulting from this acceleration or, more correctly, the net effect of that acceleration and the acceleration imparted by natural gravity as subjectively experienced by an object.

  9. centrifugal force is an erroneous  name for momentum
